I like a lot of foods, like rice, noodles, dumplings, porridge, hamburgersand so on. But my favourite food is dumplings. Every Sunday,my mother makes manydumplings for me. If she has no time to make the dumplings, I'll go to thesupermarket to buy some. Dumplings look like white boats. They tastedelicious.On my birthday every year, I usually make a lot of dumplings with mymother because I often ask some friends to eat them with me. There are differentkinds of vegetables in them. My friends all like to eat them very much.

Of all the foods,I like dumplings best. What about you, mydear friends? Doyou like dumplings,too?

Beggars are one of the most familiar groups in every city. They accompany us from our childhood until now, and I've found both the beggars and I change in this journey.

Years ago as a little girl, when I came across some old and disabled beggars on the road, I'd donate some pocket money to them, happily thinking I was helping.

s I have grown older, I've found the number of beggars has grown larger and they are more diverse. They appear in every corner of the city, on the overbridge, on the street, near restaurants, and even at your door. In contrast with the old days, it seems like the situation with beggars today is more complicated, which has made me hesitate before deciding whether to help them or not.

It's hard for me to give them money considering some who appear beggars in day time but dress up and go to fancy restaurants at night; and some who are controlled by some illegal organization and the money they get all goes to the organization. If I help them, I'd be making the problem worse, I'd be doing harm to the society, indirectly. But it's also hard not to give them money, considering there're real beggars who really need help. If I don't help them, who will? And where is my sympathy?

What hurts me the most is not how hard it is to distinguish the real help-seekers from the many false ones, but that some children are forced by adults, sometimes even their parents, to beg. They grow up despised by the world, out of mainstream society. When I see their eyes filled with desperation and impudence instead of purity and innocence, my heart sinks. We don't know how they will face the world when they grow up, how this will shape their characters, and what they may do to the society, to perpetuate this cycle of violence.

Except for Thanksgiving turkey, it's hard to find a typically "American"food. The United States is a land of immigrants. So Americans eat food from manydifferent countries. When people move to America, they bring their cookingstyles with them. That's why you can find almost every kind of ethnic food inAmerica. In some cases, Americans have adopted foods from other countries asfavorites. Americans love Italian pizza, Mexican tacos and Chinese egg rolls.But the American version doesn't taste quite like the original!

Americans living at a fast pace often just "grab a quick bite." Fast foodrestaurants offer people on the run everything from fried chicken to fried rice.Microwave dinners and instant foods make cooking at home a snap. Of course, oneof the most common quick American meals is a sandwich. If it can fit between twoslices of bread, Americans probably make a sandwich out of it. Peanut butter andjelly is an all-time American favorite.

Americans on the go also tend to eat a lot of "junk food." Potato chips,candy bars, soft drinks and other goodies are popular treats. Many people eattoo many of these unhealthy snacks. But others opt for more healthy eatinghabits. Some even go "all natural." They refuse to eat any food prepared withchemicals or additives.

忙碌的美国人也趋向于吃一大堆「垃圾食物」。洋芋片、糖果、汽水和其它好吃的东西都颇受欢迎。许多人吃了太多这类不健康的零嘴，但是其它人则选择较健康的饮食习惯，有些人甚至选择「全天然」的食物，他们拒绝吃任何有化学制品或添加物的食物。

American culture is a good illustration of the saying "you are what youeat." Americans represent a wide range of backgrounds and ways of thinking. Thevariety of foods enjoyed in the U.S. reflects the diversity of personal tastes.The food may be international or regional. Sometimes it's fast, and sometimesit's not so fast. It might be junk food, or maybe it's natural food. In anycase, the style is all-American.

美国文化是「你吃什么就成为什么样子」这句话的好写照。美国人代表了范围广泛的背景和想法。在美国可享受到的各式食物正反映出个人品味的多样化。这食物可能是国际性也可能是地区性的;有时是快餐，有时也不见得;它可能是垃圾食物，也可能是天然食品。然而无论如何，它们都是美式的。
